Week 7 Update

We are coming to the end of Week 7, which means only one week left. The lab this week had us create firewall rules on a Fedora system. Security has always been a subject of computer science that I have always had a bit of an issue with. Although the command line controls used for this lab were a bit confusing, I do like the straightforward flexibility that this style allows. I really feel like I learned some new useful things. One issue I am finding myself having is typos. Since there are a few commands per line, it is normal to make a few typing mistakes. However, these mistakes can either prevent a command from working or fire the wrong command. I am going to have to really be careful with this in future. I can't wait to wrap up the project next week. Good luck to everyone!

Week 6 Update

Hello, everyone! We are here at the end of Week 6. Unfortunately last week was another week where I did not get my work completed. However, I have managed to get everything in this week. Learning about MySQL was very interesting. I can definitely see how it would be useful in a business setting, especially when maintaining large customer or employee records. Things are close to wrapping up here and I am hoping I can get myself fully caught up. Good luck everyone!

Week 4 Update

Hello everyone. Unfortunately I was unable to post last week, and this week I am still trying to get the lab done. I was supposed to be moving, but issues came up that left me with no stable living arrangement for about 2 weeks. Anyway, personal issues aside, I am really finding this week's content to be really interesting. FTP is such a basic component of computing, but this is my first experience with it. I will post another update once my lab is complete.

Week 2 Update

We are through week 2 of WEB375. I unfortunately did not yet complete the lab. I was having some issues after setting up the forward.zone and reverse.zone files. I included a screenshot of my last error report. I tried to make some changes but it has not yet worked. I am going to step away for now and return to it with fresh eyes. I feel like it is most likely an obvious fix, but I need to make that fix before I can continue. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Hopefully I can get this taken care of soon.

Week 1 Lab Complete!

I just completed Lab 1 and I have to say, I am a lot more comfortable with Linux commands than I thought I would be. I haven't really used much Linux since a brief experimental period in high school. As I was going through the instructions, some of it was coming back to me. After reading over the details of the project, I think it is going to be very challenging. Although, that could end up being a fun thing. I usually enjoy learning new aspects of CIS, and Linux development would definitely be useful. Since I don't really have any progress on the project itself yet, I will be including a screenshot from the first part of my lab. I just found using the Linux terminal to be a lot of fun.

Good luck to everyone else going forward! Week 2, here we come!

Getting started...

I know I am a little late to the game this week, but here is my new blog to go along with my progress in WEB375 this term. Due to a very busy week of work and starting the move to a new house, I didn't get a chance to start the lab until now. I am going to try to bang this out and then I will be back with how everything went. I look forward to sharing my progress.
